AIREI has launched its second AI-based palm oil mill at Perak Motor Co (PMC Oil Mill), Teluk Intan, Perak. Its capacity is 60 tonnes per hour, compared with 45 at the first mill.
A launch connecting operations and research
The project comes alongside a new partnership with Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC). The launch brought together MDEC, the Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB), industry partners and Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR). Possible research collaboration and internships were discussed, according to The Sun’s coverage.
That combination gives the occasion a wider significance: a working mill can connect the questions operators face with the questions researchers investigate. The discussions open a route for further engagement between industry and education, while the deployment provides the immediate operational focus.
“We are now proving that it can scale.”
Surendran Kuranadan, AIREI founder and CEO, as quoted by The Sun.
Bringing AI into the production process
The AI monitors production, identifies deviations and helps trace their causes, supporting a return to agreed operating parameters. The system integrates with existing facilities.
For the people running a mill, the practical value lies in connecting a signal to a response. An unusual reading needs to become something a team can investigate and act on. This puts process control, and the decisions surrounding it, at the heart of the technology story.
Early results at PMC
Bernama reported a 13% reduction in press-station mesocarp oil losses on a wet basis. Perak Motor palm oil mill division managing director Steven Yow Thin Chin explained the priority:
“a mill is measured by its oil extraction rate”
Steven Yow Thin Chin, as quoted by Bernama.
Industry.co.id also reported a 20% reduction in dependence on foreign operators within the first month. A reduction of 40% remains a projection, rather than an achieved result.
Together, these early findings make PMC a significant next chapter for AIREI: a deployment where the discussion about AI is grounded in production and the day-to-day work of mill operations.
